Where the mountain meets the Gail

A winter wonderland within walking distance — where the slopes drop into the Gail, the river runs cold and clear, and ice sculptures form along the banks overnight.

Some of our favourite winter walks end exactly here, where the water never quite freezes. The current keeps moving, the air sharp enough to take your breath, and the only sound is the river itself.

It's the kind of place you'd never find without local knowledge — twenty minutes from the front door of the farmhouse, but worlds away from anything paved. Bring boots, gloves, a thermos. Stay longer than you planned.

After the walk, the long table at the farmhouse always seems warmer.
