First mentioned in 1331, the village of Möderndorf gathers around its old castle on the Gail, today the seat of the Gailtaler Heimatmuseum, one of the most beautiful regional museums in Carinthia.

The farmhouse is in Möderndorf, a quiet village near Hermagor in Carinthia, Austria, at the southern edge of the Alps. The Italian border is only about 20 minutes away, and Lake Weißensee, Pressegger See and the Nassfeld ski area are all within easy reach.

How many apartments does the hideaway have?

Two stylish apartments in a restored farmhouse. Apartment I — Familie sleeps up to six in three bedrooms; Apartment II — Stube sleeps up to four in two bedrooms. Both have a full kitchen, Wi-Fi, and access to the garden. They can be booked together for groups of up to ten.

Can I bring my own horse to the holiday house?

Yes, on request you can bring your own horse. There is a stable and a riding arena directly on the property. Places are limited and subject to capacity, and the price is on request, so please ask before booking whether a space is free for your dates. Other pets, including dogs, are not allowed.

What is there to do nearby?

In summer: swimming at Weißensee and Pressegger See, hiking, road-cycling and mountain biking, horseback riding straight from the farmhouse, and day trips across the border into Friuli. In winter: skiing and snowboarding at Nassfeld, and skating across Europe's largest natural ice surface on Lake Weißensee.

How far is the nearest airport?

Klagenfurt Airport is roughly one hour by car. Venice Marco Polo and Treviso are around two hours, and Ljubljana about ninety minutes. A car is the most practical way to explore the surrounding lakes, mountains and Italian border towns.

When is the best time to visit Carinthia?

Every season has its character. Late spring and summer bring warm lake-swimming days and long evenings; autumn is golden and quiet; winter turns the valley silent under snow with skiing and natural ice nearby. The hideaway is open year-round.
